Description
38 Market Place is a house dating from the late 18th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of red brick with painted ashlar dressings and features a hipped pantile roof with a single hip and ridge stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, presenting a three-bay front that includes an ashlar dressed plinth, a first-floor band, and quoins.
The central doorway has a round head, a plain doorcase, a traceried fanlight, and a panelled door. This doorway is flanked by single glazing bar sash windows, with three additional glazing bar sashes above, all featuring serpentine lintels and raised keystones. There are three flat-headed dormer windows with glazing bar sashes in the roof.
The west front has two bays, with a dummy doorway to the left that mirrors the central doorway, featuring a round head, plain doorcase, traceried fanlight, and a blocked panelled door. To the right is a four-light 20th-century casement window with a moulded cornice, and above it is a single glazing bar sash with a serpentine head. A large 20th-century dormer window with a four-light casement is located above.
