Description
The building at 32 and 34 Market Place in Folkingham originally served as a village jail and court house, later converted into two cottages. It dates to the mid-17th century, with subsequent alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is primarily of coursed limestone rubble, with some rendered brick areas. The roof is covered in Collyweston slate, featuring a stone-coped gable to the south and both gable and ridge stacks.
The building is arranged over two storeys and an attic and comprises a three-bay cottage to the left and a two-bay cottage to the right. Number 34 has a 20th-century rendered brick gabled porch in the centre, containing a panelled door. Flanking the porch are single three-light casement windows with shallow segmental heads. The doorway to Number 32 is located to the right, also with a shallow segmental head and a partially glazed door. A three-light casement window is positioned to the left of the doorway, again with a shallow segmental head. The upper floor features a small, rectangular 20th-century casement window above the porch, alongside a three-light casement to the left and two three-light casements to the right, all with shallow segmental heads. Three hipped dormers are positioned above the roofline, each containing a two-light casement.
