Description

The Malthouse Cottages comprise a terrace of three cottages, originally three cottages and a malthouse, dating to the 18th century. The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, with cambered arches at ground floor level and a plinth. There is a filled doorway between the second and third cottages. The roof is tiled, with a half-hipped north end, a hipped south end, a slate catslide at the rear, and three gabled dormers on the north side, each with cills at eaves level. The front (east) elevation has a regular arrangement of windows: three windows above three on the ground floor, and three above two on the first floor. The windows are leaded casements. The cottages have boarded doors set in plain frames, within shallow Victorian timber porches, each with an oval arch below a pierced trefoil design and wavy bargeboards. The interior of the middle cottage reveals a change in the upper floor level, which is higher on the north side.
