Description
The lychgate north of the Church of St Nicholas is a structure dating from around 1871, likely designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield. It features an openwork timber-frame design set on a plinth made of flint and dressed stone. The base includes sole-plates and posts with curved braces that support a two-bay roof, which has an arch-braced central truss and is open at both ends, featuring collar rafters. The roof is covered with clay plain tiles, accented by a band of blue scalloped tiles, crested ridge tiles, and topped with an iron cross at the ridge. The lychgate has a pair of wooden gates that feature cusped arch open panels.
