Description
This gateway, located about 25 meters south-west of The Doctor's Old House, dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed from ham stone ashlar and features square piers that stand approximately 3 meters tall. The piers have a moulded plinth and two fielded panels on their roadside faces, along with plain friezes and cornice mould caps that have a step and shallow pyramid tops. Between the piers are panelled timber gates. The gateway is flanked by ashlar wing walls that rise about 2.75 meters, extending in concave quarter-circles with thin angled copings, which then merge into slightly lower rubble walls on each side. This gateway is an important feature in the setting of The Doctor's Old House and contributes to the overall streetscape.
