Description
The north and east boundary railings to Ashlar House date from the 18th or 19th century and are made up of boundary railings, gates, and piers. The piers are constructed from ham stone, while the railings and gates are made of wrought iron. The railings along the north boundary are located 3 meters from the house and feature alternating barbed spearpoints and arrowheads, with cast iron finials on arch-braced standards. There is a 20th-century gate opposite the door of the house. The railings continue along the east boundary, where at the south-east corner, there are a pair of rusticated piers topped with cornice caps. Between these piers, there is a pair of wrought iron gates, likely from the late 18th century, which are plain up to the middle rail and then feature finer rods with cast rose decorations, alternating spears, and barbed points on the top rail, with scrolls above and cast iron urn finials on the edges. These railings significantly enhance the setting of Ashlar House and contribute to the streetscape around the Church of All Saints.
