Description

Milestone located at Harding's Hill in Long Sutton, dating from the 19th century. It is made of Ham stone and features a cast iron plaque. The pillar measures 450 millimeters wide, 200 millimeters thick, and stands 1 meter tall, topped with a triangular shape. The plaque is 380 millimeters wide and 410 millimeters deep, with reverse curves at the top corners, and it reads "LONG SUTTON/1 MILE/SOMERTON/2 MILE". This road was turnpiked in 1761 and was managed by the small Martock Trust until 1839.
