Description

Manor House Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse with origins dating back to the 16th century, featuring later work from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from local lias stone, rendered on the front elevation, with Ham stone dressings. The roof is covered with artificial stone slates and has stepped coped gables, along with rendered chimney stacks. The building has a 'T'-plan layout and stands two storeys tall with three bays.

The farmhouse has a rubble plinth and an ashlar band course at the cornice level, with a low plain parapet on the south elevation. It features 16-pane sash windows set in plain ashlar surrounds with small keystones. In the lower bay two, there is a part-glazed door topped by a diamond-glazed rectangular fanlight, which is sheltered by an open stone porch of non-classical design. There are also 20th-century flat-roofed dormer windows located behind the parapet on the outer bays.

On the west gable, there is a wing wall that leads to a segmental arched keystoned doorway. At the rear, there is an 18th-century stone extension with a clay tile roof. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to contain remnants of a former timber frame and moulded ceiling beams in the hall. Additionally, there is a large Ham-stone fireplace in the west gable, accompanied by a mullioned window. The roof appears to have been raised in the 19th century.

Manor House Farmhouse is part of Sutton Horsey Manor and was in existence by 1695, possibly as early as 1568. It may have sustained damage from the King's troops in 1685.
