Stables 15 Metres West Of Maperton House

The stables located 15 metres west of Maperton House are a stable block that likely dates from around 1876. They are constructed from Cary stone that has been cut and squared, with ashlar dressings. The roof features plain clay tiles over stone slate base courses on the west side and Welsh slates on the east side, all set between coped gables.

The building is two storeys high with a seven-bay west elevation. Bays 2 and 6 have gabled windows topped with ball finials, while bays 3, 5, and 7 contain 4-pane sash windows framed by architraves. There is a moulded doorway with a flat hood above bay 2, and bay 3 features a semi-circular archway that is now blocked, replaced by an early 20th-century stone three-light window in the centre. Above this is a later gable with a leaded window.

At the centre of the roof, there is a clock tower designed in a 17th-century style, made of timber with a lead roof and an octagonal plan. It has diamond clock faces on the east and west sides beneath a bell-hip roof topped with a weathervane. The east side of the stables has some early 20th-century modifications, notably two open pitched-roof timber canopies in a 17th-century style. The stables are impressive on their own and significantly enhance the setting of Maperton House.
