Description
The stables at Gilston House, dated 1875, are a courtyard block that is mostly single storey. They are constructed from random whin rubble with contrasting yellow ashlar dressings and chamfered reveals. The west elevation is symmetrically planned with seven bays, featuring a central two-storey tower that has a segmental-headed opening. Above this is a bipartite window with a dovecot in a bargeboarded and gabled head. The tower is topped with a pyramidal roof, which has a squat clock tower and gables on each elevation, along with a steep pyramidal spire above. The remaining bays are single storey, with outer advanced bargeboarded and gabled bays that include bipartite windows, and an additional door to the right. All doors, windows, and former cart openings on the other elevations and the courtyard side are square-headed. The roofs are slated throughout.
