Description
The gates and gate piers, along with the north and west boundary walls of Maperton House, were likely constructed around 1802. They are made from Doulting and local stone, featuring wrought iron gates. The gate piers are square in shape, with tall plain plinths and shafts that have chamfered corners and run-out stops. They are topped with a debased cornice moulding and have square steps leading up to ball finials. The gates themselves include central railed panels with scrolled surrounds, rising to a leaf peak, and are decorated with trumpet bell motifs, making them a notable example of their type. The boundary walls are built from roughly coursed local stone and have simple coping. Together, these elements significantly enhance the setting of Maperton House.
