Description

The pump and recess located at the east end of East Street in Ilminster dates from the late 19th century. The structure features a red brick recess that houses a cast-iron cylindrical shaft, which has a later capping at the top. The shaft is adorned with three moulded rings at the center and base. On the right-hand side of the shaft, a pump-handle is bolted to a bracket, and the rectangular-section spout includes an ornamental knob designed to support a bucket-handle. The brick recess is set within a rubblestone wall and measures approximately 2 meters high, 0.5 meters deep, and 1 meter wide, with bull-nosed brick edges leading to a segmental arch.
