Description

Northover Manor Hotel, located on Roman Road, is a building that may have originally been two houses. It likely dates back to the 17th century but was remodeled in the early 19th century. The exterior is constructed from local lias stone that is cut and squared, with some dressings in Ham stone. The roof is plain clay tiled and features coped gables, along with brick chimney stacks at the ends and in the middle.

The hotel has two storeys and seven bays. On the upper floor, there are small-pane, two-light casement windows, with bays 4, 5, and 6 featuring Ham stone surrounds that may be adaptations of earlier windows. The lower floor has three-light small-pane casement windows with Gothic arched tops, except for bay 5, which has a two-light window. Bays 3 and 7 have panelled doors in plain openings under timber lintels. There are various additions at the rear of the building.

Although the interior has not been seen, there are boundary railings about 3 metres from the house. These railings feature alternate hoops enclosing plain spikes and solitary spikes, with a matching gate opposite bay 7 and a 20th-century gate opposite bay 3. A brick return wall with stone coping is present on the south-west side. Together, these features enhance the setting of the house and contribute positively to the streetscape.
