Description
The Laurels is a semi-detached house dating from the late 18th century, situated on Roman Road in Northover. The house is constructed of local grey lias stone with Ham stone dressings, featuring a Welsh slate roof with stepped coped gables and brick end chimney stacks. It is two storeys high with an attic, and has an irregular three-bay arrangement. The facade includes a plinth, band course, and rusticated quoins. The windows are sash windows with 25 panes on the lower sashes and 16 panes on the upper sashes, all set within architraves. A 20th-century door is located between the first and second bays, accessed by an open stone porch supported by thin Doric columns and a plain entablature. An attic window is present in the south gable. The interior remains unseen. Approximately 3 metres west of the house stands a low stone boundary wall with wrought iron spearhead railings, cast finials to the standards, and a pair of matching gates positioned opposite the front door. Thin ashlar return walls curve upwards to meet the house, all of which contribute to the setting of the house and the surrounding street scene.
