Description
Ivy Cottage is a house in a row, likely dating from the early 19th century and subsequently modified. It is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a colourwashed facade, and has a plain clay tiled Mansard roof behind coped gables, along with brick end chimney stacks. The house is two storeys with an attic, and originally had three bays. It features sash windows in segmental arched openings with gauged brick arches, currently with six panes each; the upper panel of the second bay is blind. A partly glazed door is set in a matching opening in the lower bay of the house. To either side of the original house are single-bay extensions with ordinary roofs. Sawtooth dentilled eaves courses are visible. The left extension has twelve-pane sash windows on both levels, the lower in a segmental-arched opening; the right extension has a similar window above, but below a metal garage door and a plain boarded door. The interior has not been inspected. Approximately three metres west of the house stand wrought-iron railings, approximately 900 millimetres high, featuring barbed spear points to the middle and top rails, and an ornate pair of matching gates opposite the door with curved top rails, all of which contribute to the building’s setting and the street scene.
