Lewton Cottage, And Gateway On North West Corner Attached To Compton Farmhouse

Lewton Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from roughly cut and squared ham stone, featuring ashlar quoins and a facade of red brick in Flemish bond. The roof is covered with clay pantiles and has stepped coped gables, with brick chimney stacks at either end. The cottage has two storeys with attics and consists of three bays. It has horizontal-bar casement windows with flat gauged brick arches; the outer bays have three-light windows, while the lower bay two has a two-light window, which may have been a former doorway, leaving the upper bay two blank. There is a lean-to structure against the east gable, which includes an open porch and a 20th-century part-glazed door. The west gable features a two-light attic casement window beneath a timber lintel. On the northwest corner, there is a short length of ashlar wall about 2.5 metres high, with plain coping and a pointed-arched gateway that connects Lewton Cottage to Compton Farmhouse. The interior has not been seen.
