Description
Compton Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is built of ham stone ashlar with a Welsh slate roof, featuring stepped coped gables and reconstructed stone chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and four bays. It has ovolo-mould mullioned windows set in wave-mould recesses; the upper bays have three-light windows and the lower bays have four-light windows, all with labels. The upper bays 3 and 4 share a single label, the window in the lower bay 2 has been deepened, and the lower bays 3 and 4 share a window. To the left of the lower bay 3 is a doorway with a 19th-century door and rectangular fanlight, sheltered by a stone porch. The porch, probably from the earlier 19th century, has an ashlar construction with a pitched slated roof, a moulded cope gable with kneelers and an obelisk finial, and a plain shield above the ovolo-mould cambered-arched doorway set in a rectangular recess with incised spandrils under a label. A single-storey extension from the 19th century is located on the south-east gable, with two two-light casement windows. The interior remains unseen.
