Description
The war memorial, dating from around 1920, is located at Butleigh Cross in Butleigh. It is constructed from dressed Ham stone and is designed in a 14th-century style. The memorial incorporates the socket of a 14th-century wayside cross that previously stood on this site. It features a base made up of four octagonal steps, with the lower steps being benched and having a splay set-off. The square socket is much weathered, and the memorial has a tapering octagonal shaft topped with a carved figure and a crucifix at the apex. The steps are inscribed with the names of the fallen. The memorial occupies a prominent position in the landscape.
