Description
Higher Rocke's Farmhouse is likely the manor house of a small manor, which later became a farmhouse and is now a house. It probably dates from the early 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed and squared rubble, featuring some banding, and has roofs of tile and pantile at different pitches, along with brick stacks.
The main facade, facing the garden, is two storeys with an attic and consists of one, two, three, and four-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned windows, including one with a king-mullion and stopped labels. The left bay features a projecting two-storey porch beneath a front-facing gable, with a semi-circular outer door opening in a moulded and dressed stone surround, accented by scalloped imposts and an emphasized keystone. The inner door has a moulded wooden surround and is a plank door with strap hinges.
To the left, there is a 19th-century addition that has two bays and three-light casements. Inside, there are two fireplaces with moulded surrounds and four-centred heads, one made of wood and the other of freestone. The ceiling beams are chamfered and stopped. A glazed lean-to at the rear is not considered of special interest.
