Description
Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the medieval period, with additions and alterations from the 17th century and further work in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble and features double and triple-Roman tile roofs with coped verges and four brick stacks. The building is an open-hall house that has been later floored.
It has a single storey and attic, with a layout of 1:1:1:3 bays. The right three bays contain 2, 3, and 4-light moulded stone-mullioned windows on the ground floor, which have king mullions and labels. The first floor features windows in gabled half-dormers with copings, two of which have bases for finials. The center gable is dated "1671," while the side gables are marked "T.L." and "L.W.M." The adjacent bay to the left has 2 and 3-light stone-mullioned windows, and next to that is a very large moulded 4-light mullioned and transomed window that once illuminated the former hall, set in a shallow projection with a pent roof. The bay at the extreme left is a 19th-century addition with casements.
There are two door openings: a plank door to the left and a plank door at the center of the right three bays, which is sheltered by a gabled wooden porch. Inside, there is a very large open fireplace on the ground floor, although it is now blocked.
