Description
The war memorial located on Halsall Road dates from around 1920 and incorporates a cross base that is likely from the 15th century. It is made of limestone, with the cross base crafted from sandstone. The base has a square shape that is chamfered to form an octagon, featuring a projecting roll moulding. It is supported by four steps, which are also octagonal in shape. The shaft of the memorial is octagonal and tapers upwards. The cross head is gabled and is intricately carved with a scene of the crucifixion. Inscribed around the second step is the following message: "This cross has been set up on the ancient base by the Halsall parishioners in memory of their kinsmen who fell for King and Country 1914-1919. Their names are inscribed below."
