Description

Badger's Rake Cottiford is a farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century and was enlarged in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is rendered over cob, random rubble, and brick, with thatched roofs that are half-hipped to the left. It features a large wall plate and a rendered external stack to the right, with colourwashed brick above the entrance and brick on the rear wing.

The layout is likely a lobby entrance that has been expanded to a "T"-plan by the addition of a wing at the rear, which is flanked by outshuts. This wing has been extended again in brick beyond the chimney. The farmhouse is one and a half storeys high, with two dormers on the first floor. The dormer to the right has a two-light leaded casement window with quadrant stays. Other windows include a small two-light window to the left, a three-light window to the left of the entrance, and three cruciform windows to the right, one of which has been significantly altered.

There is a late 20th-century glazed porch on a random rubble plinth, featuring a glazed door from the same period. The entrance to Badger's Rake is located in the rear outshut on the right. The interior has only been partially viewed, but one pair of jointed trucks is visible in No 2 Cottiford. The building was formerly known as Trenance Farmhouse.
