Description
Lower Vellow House is a cottage dating from the 17th century that was restored in the late 20th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble and features a thatched roof with stone stacks at the gable ends and in the penultimate bay on the right. The building has a plan consisting of three cells and a cross passage, a gabled stair turret, and a two-storey projection at the rear. A modern two-bay single-storey porch is located on the facade.
The cottage is two storeys high and has five bays. The windows on the facade, which are all from the 20th century, vary in size. There is a tiny central dormer that lights part of the attic, and the end two bays have two and three-light casements with eyebrow dormers. On the ground floor, there is a two-light casement window on the left and two three-light casements to the right of the single-storey thatched porch, which has a stable door and two windows. The end two bays on the right feature pilaster strip buttresses.
The interior has only been partially viewed, but the ground floor rooms contain fireplaces with chamfered wooden lintels and chamfered stone jambs. Additionally, there are chamfered beams with step and run-out stops that run laterally to the facade.
