Description

This is an early 19th-century lime kiln located at Lower Vellow in Stogumber. It is constructed from red sandstone random rubble and features a standard plan set into the hillside. The kiln has curved abutments and a parapet that is largely obscured by undergrowth. There are three stone relieving arches, and the openings to the flue are partly blocked. The kiln is set into the bank at the roadside and is part of a now disused quarry. It serves as an interesting feature along the road between Vellow and Lower Vellow.
