Description

Sweets is a farmhouse, now a house, that may date back to the 16th century. It was extended in the 17th century and underwent refenestration and alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of rendered rubble and cob, topped with a wheat-reed thatch roof that is half-hipped at the left end and on the rear extensions, with a gable end on the right.

Originally, it had a three-cell through-passage plan featuring an axial rubble stack with a drip backing onto the through-passage and a tall lateral rubble stack that has weatherings and a tapering top, which heats the lower end of the house. Two short wings were added at each end to the rear, and a central gabled thatch dormer was added to create an E-shaped plan on the rear elevation.

On the north street side, the building has two storeys and a three-window range consisting of two-light small casements, with eyebrow dormers above two three-light casements to the left of a 20th-century door leading to the through-passage. There are slated lean-to roofs on each side of the lateral stack projections, and a two-light casement is located in the right projection, with the roof continuing to the left as a porch. All the windows are 20th-century fenestration featuring diamond-leaded panes. The interior has been significantly altered.
