Description
These are two adjoining cottages, with the left-hand cottage also incorporating a shop. They likely date from the 17th century. The cottages are built with whitewashed cob and rubble, and have a thatched roof, with the end bay tiled. A former blacksmith’s shop is indicated by the tiled roof and enclosed slated outshut containing two large rubble stacks, an axial stack, and a stack at the right gable end, the latter featuring a drip and tapered top. The cottages are single room deep and have a six-window range of two-light casement windows, each with six panes. A canted bay window with a tiled roof and four lights, each with six panes, is on the left end. Two two-light casement windows with six panes each flank a 20th-century tiled porch. To the right-hand cottage is a tiled roof porch and a three-light casement window with eight panes to the left, and a four-paned fixed light inserted into a blocked doorway to the right. A tiled extension has a three-light shop window and a stable door beneath a continuous lintel. The original roof trusses appear to be intact, although the roof space is not accessible. Internal partitions have been altered.
