Description
Upper Poppinger is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and additional changes in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed with rendered infill from the 20th century, a replaced brick plinth, and a sandstone rubble extension to the north. It features slate roofs and consists of three framed bays aligned north to south, with a stone addition that was formerly a granary to the north and a 20th-century wing added to the west, creating a T-shaped plan. The main entrance is located in the northern framed bay, with another entrance in the former granary, which has a shuttered window and a ledged door. The south gable end has a rebuilt brick stack. The building is two storeys tall, with a heightened roof and four windows that are irregularly spaced and paired on the south side. The windows are 2-light casement windows with glazing bars, and the ground floor has a similar arrangement. The framing is largely intact, with original trusses enclosed within the later roof, although the apex has been cut. Originally, there were three square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, but this has been altered to four panels.
