Description
The Roundhouse is a detached cottage dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that is roughly cut and squared, topped with a hipped thatched roof and a brief chimney stack. The building is single storey with an attic and consists of two bays, with the easterly bay being circular in plan. It features horizontal bar casement windows on both levels of each bay, and there is a plain boarded door set into the curve on the north side. The purpose of the circular portion is not explained; it may have simply been designed as a decorative feature, or it could potentially be the base of a windmill, although no such windmill is recorded at this site in "Windmills of Somerset" by Coutherard and Watts from 1978. The interior has not been seen.
