Description

Barton Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse, likely built in the 17th century and modified over time. It is constructed from ham stone coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, and the east elevation and north gable are rendered. The roof is triple-angle and covered with clay tiles, featuring high coped gables that suggest it may have originally been thatched. There are brick chimney stacks.

The building has two storeys and a 7-bay east elevation that faces at right angles to the road. The windows on the ground floor have hollow-chamfered mullions set in wave-mould recesses, with 3-light windows in bays 1, 4, and 5, and a 2-light window in bay 2. The upper floor features timber casement windows, with a 2-light window in upper bay 1, a 3-light window in upper bay 3, a 6-light window of an old pattern over bays 4 and 5, and a 5-light window over bays 6 and 7. In lower bay 3, there is a boarded door in a segmental-arched opening with a plain surround, while bay 6 has a 6-fielded panelled door in a moulded cambered arched doorway with incised spandrils, but no label. There is also a further 2-light mullioned window on the first floor of the north gable, and on the west elevation, there are 3-light mullioned windows at both levels. The interior has not been seen. The farmhouse is no longer in use as a working farm.
