Description

This building is a row of four cottages, formerly five, known as The Old Post Office, dating from the early 19th century. Constructed from ham stone ashlar, it features a Welsh slate roof with a shallow pitch, stepped coped gables, and obelisk finials, along with brick chimney stacks. The structure is two storeys high and consists of six bays, with the first two bays possibly being built separately.

The cottages have hollow-chamfer mullioned windows with three lights, set in chamfered recesses that include separate labels. All window lights are arched with incised spandrils and rectangular leaded panes. Each bay, except for the first, has a doorway to the right, with bay one featuring a narrow doorway that has a boarded door set in a deep, four-centre arched recess with a beaded surround and a deep lintel with a label. The doorways to the right of bays two and five have been blocked and converted into two-light windows. There is a small stone plaque between the upper bays one and two, though no legend is visible. The east gable has two bays of matching three-light windows, but the north bay is blind at both levels. There is a 20th-century extension to the west gable.

The cottages are enclosed by small front gardens and a tall ashlar wall with thin coping, standing about 1.5 meters from the houses. The wall features gaps and returns to gateways that align with the doorways, leading up to the doorways via five or six stone steps made from lias.
