Description
The Thorne Chest Tomb, located 2 metres north of the organ chamber door in the churchyard of the Church of St Lawrence, dates back to 1617. It is possibly made of Doulting stone and features a base that is buried. The tomb has plain sides and a heavy flat top with angled under coving. The main inscription on the west end reads, "ROBERT TH/ORNE OF CL/APTVN DEC/ESED THE 13/OF AUGUST 1617/ AND HIS AGE/72".
