Description

The Mountford monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 6 metres west of the tower of the Church of St Michael and All Angels. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of Ham stone with wrought-iron railings. The tomb features a stone base and a moulded plinth, with one fielded panel on each face and very slim panelled pilasters on the sides. There is no frieze, and it has moulded coving leading to a shallow hipped top. The tomb is enclosed by wrought-iron railings set on a stone kerb, which includes a cast-iron top rail with necked spearpoint tops and urn finials at the corners. This monument commemorates Thomas Mountford, who died in 1811, and his wife Mary, who died in 1830.
