Description
The Francis monument and railings, located in the churchyard about 20 metres north of the tower of the Church of St. Mary Major, date from the early 19th century. This chest tomb is made of Ham stone and features wrought iron railings. The monument has a paved base and a moulded plinth, with one fielded panel on each face and coffer-panelled pilasters on the sides. The top is hipped with deep moulded coving and rounded leading edges. The railings, which stand on a low stone base and reach about 1.5 metres in height, have waisted spearpoint tops. The monument commemorates members of the Francis family, with the earliest recorded death date being 1801.
