Description

The Pigeon House, located 4 meters west of Crane Farmhouse, is a structure that may date back to medieval times. It is built from local lias stone, which is nearly ashlar, with Ham stone dressings, and features a replacement roof made of corrugated asbestos cement sheeting. The building has a rectangular plan and includes a flat-headed chamfered doorway on the north wall, along with a plain timber-framed window that has iron bars arranged in a criss-cross pattern. Inside, the original roof has been lost and a first floor was once added, but there is still space for approximately 800 birds. This dovecote is mentioned as early as around 1750.
