Description
Selwood House, now used as offices, is an early 19th-century building constructed from locally sourced lias stone that has been cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and features plain gables, along with brick chimney stacks at each end. The house is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has a Ham stone plinth and 16-pane sash windows that are framed with architraved surrounds. The central entrance features a 6-panel door, partly glazed, set within a Ham stone surround that includes Tuscan pilasters and a plain entablature above. The interior has not been seen. There is a short enclosing wall made of matching stone that extends about 4 metres from the northeast corner, along with a section of wrought iron railing with twist spear heads on the return, which adds to the overall setting. In the early 20th century, the house served as a preparatory school.
