Description

Freeman House is a house that was once part of a row and may have included a shop. It likely has origins from the 17th century but was modified in the 18th century. The building is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with painted stone dressings, and features a clay pantiled roof supported by abutments, along with a central stone chimney stack. It is two stories high and has four bays. The upper bays 1, 2, and 4, along with lower bay 4, originally had mullioned windows, which have been adapted to accommodate small 12-pane sash windows. The lower bays 1 and 2 feature two angled bay windows with 8+16+8 panes, connected by a fascia with rounded ends beneath a lead flat roof. Lower bay 3 has a three-panel door that is sheltered by a moulded flat timber hood supported by shaped brackets. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to contain beams with stepped run-out stops, a stud and panel screen, and a lateral rear fireplace.
