Description
Barclays Bank is a corner house, now functioning as a bank, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, with Ham stone dressings. The building features a Welsh slate roof behind a low parapet and has plain gables, along with brick chimney stacks at the ends.
The structure is two storeys high and has three bays on its north elevation. It has a plain parapet with a band course and a rounded northeast corner that reaches up to the parapet level. The windows include 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor and 12-pane sash windows on the upper floor, all set in plain openings with dovetailed stone lintels. The central doorway is topped with a 20th-century segmental pedimented hood supported by brackets, all made of timber. There is a simple rendered extension at the rear. The bank is prominently located at the south end of Broad Street.
