Description

Numbers 63 and 65 are a pair of houses located on St Thomas Street in Wells, dating from the early to mid-19th century. They are rendered and colourwashed, featuring clay pantiles between abutments and brick end chimney stacks.

The houses are two storeys high with attics and consist of a single bay each. They have a plinth and sash windows with four panes, except for the ground floor of No. 65, which has a canted single-storey bay window that matches the design, topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof. The entrances are centrally located, each featuring a 20th-century six-panelled door set within 19th-century frames in segmental-arched openings, accessed by six steps. At the centre of the roof, there is a raked dormer with a four-light casement window.

The interior has not been inspected. The entrance steps are flanked by low brick walls that support wrought-iron railings with scrolls and points, which extend into a low random stone wall with ashlar copings along the front boundaries of the houses, enhancing their setting and contributing positively to the streetscape.
