Description

This early 19th-century house and shop is located on the north side of St Thomas Street in Wells. The building is constructed of local stone rubble, which has been colourwashed, and features a clay pantiled roof with a western abutment and a plain gable on the east side. It has brick end chimney stacks.

The building is two storeys high with an attic and has two bays. The ground floor of the first bay contains a 2-light shop window and a recessed doorway under a plain fascia. The remaining ground floor windows are sash windows with brick arches. The first floor is similarly arranged with 4-pane sash windows. To the left of the second bay is a vertical-boarded door raised one step and sheltered by a moulded hood. A small, raked dormer window is situated centrally on the roof and contains a 4-light casement window. A flat-roofed extension to the rear has been created from a former outshut. The interior has not been inspected. The building is listed for its contribution to the surrounding townscape.
