Description
No. 73 St Thomas Street is a house located at the end of a row, dating from the late 17th century, with its front rebuilt in the late 19th century. It is constructed of local stone, featuring red brick and ashlar dressings, and has a Welsh slate roof with a coped gable to the west and a continuation to the east, along with brick end chimney stacks. The house has a 17th-century two-unit plan with a rear stair turret and was originally part of a larger property that included No. 75.
The exterior consists of two storeys with an attic and two bays. It has a plinth, sash windows set in brick surrounds, with 16-pane windows on the ground floor and 12-pane windows on the first floor. The attic features windows set under small gabled dormers, with 4-pane sashes. The central entrance is located under a blind panel and has a 20th-century door that is accessed by two steps. High in the west gable, there is a small 17th-century window with a moulded surround and a flat hood.
The rear wall is made of rubble and has three storeys, featuring a projecting stair turret with a swept-down roof to the left. At the second floor level, there is a two-light leaded casement, and two two-light ovolo-mould stone casements on the first floor, situated above a deep lean-to roof. The stair turret includes two two-light casements, one of which has a stopped drip-course. The interior has not been inspected. It is likely that No. 73 was built alongside No. 75, possibly as a single property before being divided.
