Description
No. 90 St Thomas Street is a house in a row, dating from the 18th century and remodeled in the early 19th century. The exterior is rendered and colorwashed, featuring a clay pantiled roof that extends to the east and has a stepped coped gable to the west, along with brick end chimney stacks.
The building is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. It has a plinth and sash windows with 12 panes, some of which contain crown glass, set in plain openings. The central bay features a six-fielded-panel door framed by a moulded architrave and topped with a segmental hood supported by timber brackets. There is an old bell pull to the left of the door and a footscraper to the right. The rear elevation is similar, with some compound sash windows and small raked dormers that contain casement windows in the roof. There is also a later single-storey extension in the south-west corner.
Inside, the entrance hall includes an early 19th-century staircase with cupboards underneath, a 19th-century dado rail, and coat hooks, along with original doors and doorcases. The rooms feature 19th-century fireplaces and some early cupboards, with a notable cast-iron insert in the west bedroom. The only alteration to the early 19th-century layout appears to be the addition of a bathroom. The property seems to have been modified around the same time as the adjoining No. 92, sharing similar detailing.
