Description
The Stores is a house and shop located on the south side of High Street in Hinton St George. It dates from the 18th century and was modified in the 19th century. The building is constructed from ham stone, with large stones that are roughly cut and squared. It features a double Roman clay tiled roof with an ornamental terra-cotta ridge that extends on both sides, and there are no visible chimney stacks from the front.
The building has two storeys and three bays. On the first floor, there are 2-light horizontal-bar casement windows. The ground floor includes a 20th-century part-glazed door set in a recess with a timber lintel in the first bay. The second and third bays feature a shopfront with three-pane units flanking a pair of recessed part-glazed doors, which have a fanlight above. This section is adorned with slim wooden side pilasters and a fascia above. The interior has not been seen. The building is included in the register primarily for its group value, as it is attached to No 46 to the east and No 48 to the west.
