Description

The Murley Chest Tomb is an 18th-century tomb located 4 metres southeast of the southeast corner of the south aisle at the Church of Saint Mary. It is made of Ham stone and features a moulded plinth with a single fielded panel on each face, flanked by one-fielded-panel pilasters. The tomb has a moulded hipped top. It commemorates the Murley (or Morley) family, although most of the inscriptions have been lost. The likely date of the tomb is 1767 or 1777.
