Description

PITMINSTER CP ST22SW POUNDISFORD 6/141 Gazebo, about 100 M south-east of Poundisford Lodge 25.2.55 GV II Gazebo, now derelict (April 1985). Early C18 restored early C20. Roughcast over brick with rendered quoins, rusticated surrounds to openings and flat string course, pyramid asbestos sheet covered roof, shaped console brackets. Plan: single cell, east side fronting road, entrance on west front, garden wall (qv) abutting north-west corner. Two storeys, single bay, first floor 12-pane sash windows without glass, only west window intact, ground floor window opening on south front blocked; west, remains of panelled floor, console brackets without porch 3 circular steps. Interior:contemporary dog leg stair with raised and fielded panelled dado, the whole in very poor condition at time of survey.The roof illustrated in Country Life, June 24, 1916 was bell cast with West Somerset slates and a carved wooden finial,the latter now much decayed and stored in building.
