Description
The gazebo, located about 100 meters south-east of Poundisford Lodge, is a derelict structure from the early 18th century that was restored in the early 20th century. It features roughcast over brick with rendered quoins, rusticated surrounds to openings, and a flat string course. The roof is covered with pyramid asbestos sheets and has shaped console brackets.
The gazebo has a single-cell plan with its east side facing the road and an entrance on the west front. It is two stories high and consists of a single bay. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows, although they are without glass, with only the west window remaining intact. The ground floor window opening on the south front has been blocked. The west side shows remnants of a panelled floor and console brackets, leading up to three circular steps without a porch.
Inside, there is a contemporary dog leg stair with a raised and fielded panelled dado, though the entire interior was in very poor condition at the time of the survey. The roof, which was illustrated in Country Life on June 24, 1916, was originally bell cast with West Somerset slates and featured a carved wooden finial, which is now much decayed and stored within the building.
