Description
Barton Lodge is a lodge to Barton Grange in Corfe, now serving as a dwelling. It was built in the mid-19th century and enlarged in the early to mid-20th century. The building is rendered over rubble and features a patterned clay tile roof with an octagonal pyramid shape, topped with a pinnacle and decorative bargeboards. The wings have clay tiles with asbestos slates, and there is a tall external stone stack at the north-west corner of the octagonal room, along with a brick stack to the east.
The lodge is designed in a picturesque Tudor Gothic style and has an L-plan layout, with the octagonal room facing west towards the driveway. An L-plan addition is located at the east end, which includes a subsidiary entrance on the north side. The single-storey structure has two tall pointed arch windows with cast iron leading and hoodmoulds on either side of the entrance, which is sheltered by a trelliswork wooden porch. The original door is still in place. There are also three-light Tudor arch head windows in the room set back to the right (south) and another similar window on the left return facing the road. The gabled addition is one and a half storeys high and includes a subsidiary entrance.
