Description
The gazebo located to the north of 77 Church Street in Tewkesbury is an early 18th-century structure that underwent restoration in the 20th century. It features English bond brickwork and a tiled roof, presenting as a small square building with a shaped gable on the north side. The gazebo is raised on a platform at the river end of the plot belonging to No. 77.
On the south side, there is a four-pane replacement sash window set into a worn stone cill, topped by a brick soldier arch. The west side has a 20th-century six-panel door beneath a replacement stone pediment supported by brackets, along with a moulded stone eaves course. The river-facing front showcases a moulded stone cornice beneath a shaped coped gable, which is topped with a finial.
The interior does not contain any features of historical interest. The gazebo was fully and carefully restored in the late 20th century. In the 18th century, Tewkesbury was notable for its series of gazebos in town gardens that backed onto the River Severn, with another example found in Post Office Lane.
