Description

The Mortuary Chapel, part of the Church of England cemetery, was built in 1856 by Wainwright and Heard. It features coursed rubble with dressed stone details and a slate roof with coped verges. The chapel is designed in the Decorated style and has a rectangular plan. At the west end, there is a broad, elaborately moulded pointed-arch doorway with a flush panelled door that has large scroll-decorated iron hinges. The north and south sides each have three bays with pointed arch windows that include reticulated tracery and plain leaded glazing. At the east end, there is a large pointed arch window with reticulated tracery and stained glass. The interior is simple and retains its original pews. The chapel forms a pair with the Non-Conformist chapel nearby.
