Description

No 27 is a lodge to the cemetery, built in 1856 by Wainwright and Heard. The building features coursed rubble with dressed stone details and a slate roof, along with a brick stack on a stone base to the right and a pair of octagonal ashlar stacks at the rear. Designed in the Gothic style, it is a single storey with an attic and has three bays. The ground floor includes stone chamfered mullion windows with three lights, while the gables above have two-light windows, each light featuring a 4-centred head. The left bay is slightly set forward. The central doorway has a depressed arch head with a chamfered stone surround and a ribbed door, topped by a gabled porch made of open timber framework on an ashlar base. Additionally, there are three hexagonal ashlar gate piers with pagodal finials in three stages facing Waterloo Road, along with the original gates.
