GV II

Tithe barn. Probably of C15. Local stone, mostly random coursed; double Roman clay tiles between coped gables with eroded finials. Of 6-bays with projecting East porch to bay-4; raised cruck trusses with double collars and pairs of, renewed, purlins to each slope, formerly windbraced. Angled offset buttresses to corners of main building, and low offset buttresses to each bay, with cruciform slit windows between; large doorway in East porch matched by doorway in opposite wall; gables have offset to wall at eaves level, and central offset buttresses, with high slits and putlog holes in gables. Northern 2 bays now adapted into stable with loft over. Blocked slightly ogee arch in South wall of porch. Probably belonging to the Grange associated with Muchelney Abbey, this forms an impressive grouping with the Rectory (qv) and Dovecote (qv). (VAG Report, unpublished SRO, 1981.)
