Description
The Crown Inn is an 18th-century inn, possibly dating back earlier, that has been enlarged and altered in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of brick in Flemish bond with a chamfered brick plinth, roughcast and rendered returns, and features a roof covered with triple Roman tiles. The building has a brick stack on the right gable end and another between the first and second bays on the left. The layout is a 'T'-plan with two cells and a cross passage, and it has been enlarged by one bay on the left with a wing at the rear. The inn is two storeys high and has a facade of one bay on the left and three bays on the right. The ground floor on the left is unlit, showing evidence of alterations in that bay, while the ground floor window openings flanking the entrance have segmental headed voussoirs. There is a gabled brick porch with a semicircular headed opening, a 20th-century door, and 20th-century windows inserted in the left return. The Crown Inn is listed primarily for its group value with Japonica Cottage and Little Thatch to the east.
